wants and desires

These fortunes have been hanging on the wall of my cube now for two or three years waiting for me to figure out what it is that I want and desire.

i'm feeling much better now

I've always believed that if you have nothing nice to say then you should say nothing at all. I guess I've had nothing nice to say for awhile.

Tonight I attended one of my ASWA board meetings. These ladies are so inspirational and civic minded and full of energy and hope. I wish I could be more like them. I never feel like I fit in well with these ladies who are so dedicated to their work and full of talk about continuing professional education and attending accounting conferences.
We were planning our June meeting which is always the installation of the officers. This year it is also the 60th anniversary of our Buffalo chapter of the American Society of Women Accountants. We are planning to invite past presidents and have an anniversary party with cake and centerpieces on the table. I start to get excited when the talk turns this direction and I offer a suggestion for the centerpieces. I was the one who came up with the idea for our table decorations at our Christmas fundraiser also. The ladies like my ideas and wonder aloud how I come up with such creative things. I think to myself that my ideas aren't really all that creative or wonderful but I am with ladies who think differently than I do. This is what my mind thinks about instead of numbers and financial fraud and tax shelters. So this is what I have to offer my little group. And now I have to get busy making twenty paper birds.

windfall

A co-worker/friend has a sister-in-law in Delaware who owned a boutique that went out of business. Paula was the recipient of some of the inventory. These were some of the things she received that she felt didn't fit her well. She gave them to me because she knows what a clothes horse I am. Everything fit me well and I love it all.

thrifty saturday

I didn't go to work today. I had a hair appointment for a cut and color at 8 am. The BAC is putting in new flooring today so my exercise class was cancelled. After Sharon made me pretty again I stopped at Starbucks for a Misto and a mini vanilla bean scone. I had plans to go to the mall but just couldn't stomach the idea of it so stopped at a few thrift stores instead. Hadn't been since December.

I picked up six tops including this Tommy Bahama tank.

And six CDs. The only one I know is Patty. It's going to be fun listening to the others. At $1.98 per CD who cares if they stink.

a nano story

Last year I ordered this purple iPod nano from Amazon and quickly fell in love with it. I treated it tenderly, watched out for it like it was a baby. Always was very careful to make sure I remembered it when I left the gym, checked my pocket constantly to make sure it hadn't fallen out. Then one night....a small lapse of memory...I left it in my sweatshirt pocket and threw it in the wash. When I emptied the washer I heard that clang....metal against metal and my heart sank. Day after day I checked it to see if maybe it had dried out and would work again. But my faith was not strong. Still I couldn't bear to throw it away.

A week or so later I ordered this green iPod nano touch from Amazon. The colors were more expensive than black or graphite but I wanted a color so I could identify mine from B's and the green happened to be the same price as the black and gray. I placed my order and then found out that shipment was about four weeks in the future. How could I live that long without a nano? After about two weeks, good news from Amazon. It could be shipped the first week in February. Then more good news....it shipped January 31st. Feb 2nd was a snow day for B. When I got home from work he was napping. I started dinner and he woke up and asked me if I had gotten the mail. I hadn't. He opened the door to find an Amazon box laying on the front porch, opened and emptied. My emotions got the best of me. I threw myself to the kitchen floor, kicking, screaming, punching the cabinets and cursing until I was drained. Then I got up and finished making dinner. The next morning I called Amazon and they told me...no problem....we'll overnight you another one. But the next day....no nano. Saturday...no nano. Monday....no nano. I called again. They are going to overnight it when they get their hands on some. For now they are backordered again. But................I plugged my purple nano in one last time before pitching it and lo and behold.....it worked. And it has continued to work like a charm.

semantiks suit

I bought this Semantiks suit for $3 at a thrift store in Arizona when I was visiting my sister at Christmas time. It looks like it has never been worn. I Googled to see if I could find a similar suit as I was curious to see what it might be worth. I found a very similar Semantiks suit on the Nordstrom website. The jacket is $138 and the pants $88. $226 altogether. That's a great savings. The Nordstrom suit is below this post. It said blog this and so I did. Then when trying to edit the post Blogger had a very tough time and I had to shut my computer down altogether and begin again. But compare the suits and the savings. Thrift shops are so great and so thrilling.
